Getting into the Transcription Business
A few years back, the business of transcribing documents was not really that popular. Documents are usually transcribed by in-house staff of the company and there was not really much opportunity for people who work at home in the area of medical, legal or business transcription. When this transcription business was first introduced in the market, a lot of people got interested in the prospect of working at home doing transcription.
Parents with young kids who would like to supervise the daily activities oftheir children were one of the first groups of people to really look into this opportunity closely. For young parents, working on transcriptions is a very convenient way of earning income while staying at home.
It must be noted that the transcription business is one of the more lucrative businesses in the country today. In fact, there are so many people who are performing transcription work at home who are earning more than those who are working in the office from 8 to 5.
For people who are very much familiar with a given field like medical or legal can easily get into the transcription business without much trouble. The idea here is to be very much familiar with the language and the jargons used in a certain field in order to be able to translate such spoken words into prints correctly. Listening to the audio material could take sometime getting used to especially if you are just starting out. However, as you become more confident about your work, it won't really take you so long produce a good output.
In most cases, you really need in order to start a work at home transcription business is a reliable computer, a fast internet connection, a headset which you could use for listening, a pedal which you could use to stop the audio material when transcribing and of course, good writing skills.
You must always remember that transcription does not only mean that you put into words what you hear on the audio files, it also mean good writing that is free from grammatical and typographical errors. The task of the transcriptionist includes editing the document as well. There may be things in the audio files that are not really relevant to the entire proceedings. For instance, if you are transcribing some medical proceedings, there may be some side comments that are not really connected to the entire activity. Such irrilevant side comments should be ommitted entirely to make the document easier to read.
Just because you are transcribing files from past events doesn't mean you have all the time in the world to complete the documents.
